“We’re a group of residents who want to see change in Northumberland Park. We want the area to be a better place to live and work and we want our children to go out and play safely. I guess it’s about taking ownership of the neighbourhood.

We’ve been going for a few months now and we’ve been engaging the community and empowering residents. It’s great to see them working with the police in our litter pick (held recently around Northumberland Park). In the middle of our event a resident was happy to come over and talk to the police about an issue which they have and that might not have normally happened. So this is also about breaking down boundaries.

And the turnout for the community litter pick was great. We had young people here, residents, the police and stakeholders in the community and we hope this is the start of many things to come. The litter picks will keep going on a monthly basis and we’re going to form a new steering group so residents can start organising events like this themselves as well as other activities. Just contact me to see how you can get involved.”
